Join us at the Chamber on Wednesday the 17th of November for an insightful event with Mr Nick von Westenholz from the National Farmers' Union and Mr Joao Pacheco from Farm Europe.

Having left the European Union, the UK is now looking at the future developments in domestic policy and trading relationships. The new Trade and Agriculture Commission (TAC) was recently launched and following the EU exit and the new Global Britain foreign policy focus, the UK is seeking to sign trade deals with a number of countries around the world.

Mr Nick von Westenholz is currently the Director of Trade and Business Strategy at the National Farmers' Union, after his appointment in 2016 as Director of EU Exit and International Trade. Prior to this he served as Chief Executive of the Crop Protection Association (CPA) from 2013 to 2016, representing the UK plant science industry and promoting the development and manufacture of a wide range of plant science technologies including synthetic and bio pesticides, seed and plant breeding and agricultural biotechnology.

Mr Joao Pacheco, formerly the Deputy Director-General in DG AGRI (Agriculture and Rural Development), is a prominent partner and contributor of the think tank Farm Europe. Before his time in the European Commission, Joao Pacheco served as the European Union's Ambassador to Brazil. Mr Pacheco has extensive experience in multilateral and bilateral trade relations. He has a background of working for more than 30 years with European government trade and agricultural policy as well as experience in the private sector.

This exciting event will take the form of a general discussion looking at the importance of agriculture in concluding Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). During the event, the speakers will address the different trade policies of the EU and the UK and discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by the agricultural sector in negotiating trade agreements. Nick von Westenholz will present an outlook on this topic from the perspective of the Farmers' Union. Joao Pacheco will participate in the discussion based on his extensive experience in negotiations and agricultural policy in general. After the discussion, there will be a Q&A session moderated by César Guerra Guerrero, chairman of BritCham's Trade and Investment Committee, where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.

We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting and topical in-person event at the British Chamber of Commerce!
