The Sustainable Products Initiative (SPI) aims to reduce the negative life cycle environmental impacts of products and improve the functioning of the internal market. It will build on the EcoDesign Directive (2009), extending the scope to new product categories and introducing new eco-design performance and information requirements to encourage the production of more durable, reusable, repairable, recyclable, and energy-efficient goods in the EU's Single Market.
Expected to be published on 30 March, the Chamber welcomes Mr Malgaj on 4 May to discuss how this new regulation will deliver sustainable production and boost demand for sustainable goods.
Mr Malgaj is coordinating work of European Commission’s departments for environment, for energy and for growth on the Sustainable Products Initiative. He has over 21 years of experience in European affairs. Previously he served in various leadership and advisory roles in the European Commission, including as a Head of Cabinet of Commissioner for Environment when he helped steer the environment policy including the first EU’s resource efficiency and circular economy initiatives and the work on Sustainable Development Goals.
This event will consist of a short presentation by Mr Malgaj explaining the initiative, followed by a moderated Q&A session, where participants will have the opportunity to put their questions to the speaker.
