Join the Chamber on Wednesday the 9th of February for a highly interesting Online Webinar “The implementation of the Harmonized System Nomenclature 2022 in international trade: from theory to practice” with Ms Gael Grooby from the World Customs Organization and Mr Roy Santana from the World Trade Organization.

The Harmonized System is used by more than 200 countries as a basis for national customs tariffs and for the collection of international trade statistics, trade negotiations and rules of origin, as well as the monitoring of controlled goods. The HS 2022, which is the seventh edition of the Harmonized System (HS) nomenclature, has been accepted by all Contracting Parties to the Harmonized System Convention. It shall enter into force on January 1, 2022. The new HS 2022 edition makes some major changes to the Harmonized System with a total of 351 sets of amendments covering a wide range of goods moving across borders. The modifications will apply, for example, to smartphones, electrical and electronic waste (e-waste), and multi-purpose intermediate assemblies.

Ms Gael Grooby served as a delegate at both the Harmonized System Review Sub-Committee and the Harmonized System Committee at the WCO prior to taking the position of Deputy Director. Coming in part way through the HS 2022 Review Cycle, she oversaw the final push to the approval of the HS 2022 Edition and has worked with her Nomenclature team to roll out the new edition and its tools, despite the challenges imposed by the pandemic.

Mr Roy Santana is a trade policy expert at the World Trade Organization with more than 20 years of experience on tariffs and other customs matters. He has worked for the Market Access Division since 2004 where he has served as the Secretary of the Council for Trade in Goods, the Committee on Market Access and the Committee on Customs Valuation.

This exciting event will take the form of a general discussion looking at the implementation of the Harmonized System Nomenclature 2022 in international trade. After the discussion, there will be a Q&A session moderated by César Guerra Guerrero, chairman of BritCham's Trade and Investment Committee, during which the attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.

We look forward to welcoming you to this insightful Brecham event!
