 EU: SHORT TERM WORK PERMITS

UK nationals traveling to the EU for up to 90 days (within 180-days) will not require a visa. 

Business TravelA business trip which involves attending meetings or conferences, does not require a visa. You will need a visa if:

  • Your work stay is longer than 90 days (within 180-days) or, 
  • You’re conducting an ‘intra-corporate transfer or, 
  • You’re self-employed and providing services in an EU member state, or 
  • You’re providing services in an EU member state, where your employer has no local presence. 

UK nationals wanting to conduct short-term work activities in the EU are now considered third-country nationals and must now adhere to the short-term work requirements specified by each EU member state:

• Meetings and consultations
• Research and design
• Marketing research
• Training seminars
• Trade fairs and exhibitions
• Sales (taking orders, negotiating sales or entering into an agreement, but not supplying the goods or services themselves)
• Purchasing goods or services
• After-sales or after-lease service (e.g. repair and maintenance)
• Commercial transactions (e.g. insurers, bankers)
• Tourism personnel (e.g. tour operators, guides)
WHAT IS THE SCHENGEN AREA?
  • The 26 European Countries that signed the Schengen Agreement include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
