Melanie Barker

Operations Manager - British Chamber of Commerce | EU & Belgium

Melanie has a legal and maths background and a diverse career spanning finance and education. She started her career as a stockbroker in the City of London and then moved into marine insurance mutual management specialising in the analysis of deterioration trends and reinsurance.  In 1996, Melanie moved to Belgium and took a career break to raise her two daughters.  She then worked for the Open University as an Associate Lecturer and also ran their Brussels office before returning to the world of finance as a Financial Adviser with The Fry Group.

Melanie has been actively involved with various professional organizations throughout her career, including serving on the Board of PWI (Professional Women International) in Brussels as Treasurer. She has years of connections with BritCham as a member, and has been particularly involved with diversity and sustainability initiatives. Currently based in the UK, Melanie holds both Belgian and British nationalities and has been the Operations lead for BritCham since 2018.

In her free time, she enjoys singing with her local choir, cycling, volunteering with WhistleblowersUK, and gardening (when the weather allows it!).
